April Coffeehouse: Poet Richard Jeffrey Newman and Musician David Bailey

April 1, 2008

Poet: Richard Jeffrey Newman

Singer/Songwriter: David Bailey

There will be live music and poetry on Friday, April 4th at 8:00 pm at the PeaceSmiths Topical, A-Typical, Folk Music, Poetry and Whatever Coffeehouse.

Richard Jeffrey Newman will read from his own work, as well as sharing his translations of Iranian poetry. Newman is the author of The Silence of Men (CavanKerry Press, 2006). He is also known for his essay, “His Sexuality; Her Reproductive Rights”, which appeared in Changing Men magazine. Newman’s web-site is at: http://www.richardjnewman.com/

The featured musician is singer/songwriter David Bailey, whose very personal songs of life and family have been performed at venues such as the Eclectic Cafe. The Island Songwriter’s Showcase gave David Bailey’s song, “Learning to Fall” the February 2008 “Writer’s Choice Award”.

PeaceSmiths Coffeehouse is held at The First United Methodist Church, 25 Broadway/Rt. 110 (southmost end near Merrick Rd./Montauk Highway) in Amityville. A donation of $7 (half for kids) is suggested to help promote the Coffeehouse series and towards PeaceSmiths’ ongoing work for peace and justice. For more information please call the PeaceSmiths hotline at (631) 798-0778 or go to www.peacesmiths.org.
