Counter-Recruiting: Leafletting in Lindenhurst

PeaceSmiths Lindenhurst Leafletting

Above: Ann, Margie and Ian make a statement: No more money for this war of lies, military recruiters stay away from our children.

On the third Saturday of each month, starting at 11am, PeaceSmiths activists gather outside the Lindenhurst Military Recruiting Center (sadly and ironically called a “career center”), to raise concerns about military recruitment of youth in schools.

If you are interested in joining us, please do. It might be helpful to call ahead and make sure others will be attending. Please call Eleanor K. or Kimberly Wilder, or leave a message at the hotline at (631) 798-0778 and we will get back to you.

There is a hip little coffeeshop up the street, where we can meet afterwards, or get a cup of coffee and warm up.

It is our responsibility to protect our young people. It is our responsibility to stand up and speak out when we see injustice. Thanks to everyone who has stood with us – or with others – outside a military recruitment center to educate young people and to draw attention to unfair recruitment practices.

I encourage PeaceSmiths to continue the monthly demonstrations third Saturdays of the month 11:00-12:30 in front of the Marine recruiting office on S. Wellwood Avenue in Lindenhurst. In the time we have been goign there, we have gained a lot of support as evidenced by the thumbs up response from cars and encouragi9ng comments by passers by. In the time we have been doing it, the response has improved and we have made some difference. The storekeepers and the Marines are well aware of our presence.Susan Blake would be very disappointed if we do not continue these demos. If you can come some third Saturdays, e-mail me with your phone number and I shall put you on the list to be phoned. elena_475 at hotmail dot com
