Undoing RacismThe flier for this event is also posted in the archives. Part of PeaceSmiths core mission involves civil rights. This flier was found in the archives. The event was sponsored by “The Suffolk Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom.” PeaceSmiths had been the meeting place for a local WILPF group.

“A workshop on “Undoing Racism” led by Vera Baquet [and] Marion Davis” Thursday, November 3, 1988 at Emma S. Clark Memorial Library, Main Street, Setauket, NY 7:30pm. It lists the “theme” as “Combating Unaware Racism.”

The phrase “unaware racism” appears to be describing what is sometimes referred to as “white privilege.” I wonder what the origins of both words are and why they choose the phrase they did? I actually think “unaware racism” might get someone thinking… -KW
