(c) Gary Ivan and PeaceSmiths, Inc.Over the years, there have been a crew of talented and dedicated PeaceSmiths artists. Among them have been: Frank Aurelio, Jeanne Strolle, and Gary Ivan. Included in the PeaceSmiths archives are hundreds of fliers from Gary Ivan, a Huntington artist and musician, who worked with Susan Blake for decades to create original, hand-lettered fliers for PeaceSmiths events.

Gary Ivan’s artwork is highly valued in the Metropolitan area, as well as in Holland, where Ivan is often asked serve as an artist-in-residence.

At left: Flier from Feb. 1992 PeaceSmiths Coffeehouse, by Gary Ivan, dedicated PeaceSmiths artist and M.C. The performers on the bill were: Reisa Conde – songwriter, singer, guitarist, and publicist; Suzanne Cardinal – writer of stories and poems, cultural worker; Gary Ivan – listed as “singer/songwriter/swordfish swallower”.

The flier raises two questions:

1. Who wrote the blurbs describing the performers – Susan Blake? Gary Ivan? Or, the two of them in collaboration? and…

2. Does this flier represent a self-portrait of the artist, Gary Ivan?

For more PeaceSmiths artwork, visit our archives here, or at the tab on the top of the page.
