The PeaceSmiths Archives

The PeaceSmiths Archives

Comments from Kimberly Wilder, Chair of the PeaceSmiths Archives Committee:

The PeaceSmiths, Inc. archive covers over thirty years of community organizing, networking, poster-making, and artistry. We have video tapes, audiotapes, posters from demonstrations, fliers from our events and from the events hosted by other groups, hand-written letters from notable members of the local peace community, even a personal note from Katharine Smith to Susan Blake, as they exchanged newspaper articles.

(Also, the famous “Cow Game” that we play at Clearwater and other activist props.)

The archives had been mostly in two rented storage places subject to weather conditions, and in the homes of a few PeaceSmiths supporters. We have sorted out, cleaned out, donated things, recycled a lot, and threw some away. Now we are down to one, temperature-regulated commercial storage on the second floor. We feel sure that there are treasures in many of these boxes. We have done our best to keep things in order and well-preserved, but more work needs to be done.

The photo above shows the outside edge of the storage, where we had to push the last things in as we wrapped up our old storage situations. As you can see, there are shelves and more order in the back of the storage unit. It would be wonderful to find a library, museum, or gallery to display our treasures.

If you are interested in helping to support the archives, or have ideas on how to preserve them and/or share them, please contact us.

The Chair of our Archives Committee is Kimberly Wilder. Please contact Kimberly with input. You may reach Kimberly at peacesmiths at yahoo dot com.
