Paths of Glory
Featuring Kirk Douglas
Directed by Stanley Kubrick

Moderated by Jack Bilello , prominent local resident, who has published several successful novels, historian, and is a popular public speaker

Kubrick’s Paths of Glory is set in World War I, and reenacts the Battle of the Marne where French and British soldiers engaged in trench warfare against German troops. The film’s unexcelled gripping photography of trench warfare adds to its compelling dramatic interest. But millions perished on both sides battling for the gain of a few meters. Surely events like this strengthened General Dwight Eisenhower’s belief that war is cruel, stupid and futile.

The dramatic storyline focuses on the attempts of elite French officers to scapegoat and execute low-ranking soldiers to cover up their own ineptitude. Ike also berated military governance for not being a model of democracy.

Come and see how this award winning 1957 classic film still has relevance today,
