May 2nd: Help take a stand against “Army Arcade” for young people
Simon Malls, a company that owns many shopping malls throughout the country, including several in Long Island, has allowed the U.S. Army to set up an “Army Experience Center” at one of their malls in Philadelphia. The AEC is an arcade, which is free to children as young as 13-years-old. This is a two-year experiment for the army, and if successful more of these will be opening in malls near you!
There will be a demonstration on Saturday, May 2nd at the Franklin Mills Mall in Philadelphia, PA. It is hoped that peace activists and concerned parents from the surrounding region may attend to help stop this injustice. Can you make a trip to Philadelphia, to the home of the Army Experience Center? Can you get a van or bus together from your area? In Long Island, folks are working with the Suffolk Peace Network to coordinate transportation to the demonstration. Please see the information below, with contact info for Karen.
If you cannot attend, please consider signing a petition here ( http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/shutdowntheaec/ ) to close the Army Experience Center. Or, write a letter to the property owner, Simon Property Group: here. (more…)

The day after Thanksgiving: Black Friday peace demo
We are thankful for Suffolk Peace Network. We are thankful that there are still folks in this world willing to stand up for the ideals of peace and non-violence.
On the day after Thanksgiving, PeaceSmiths has traditionally leafleted at a toy store explaining why parents should not buy war toys. While we still feel this is an important issue, we were not able to pull off a specific demonstration. However, the Suffolk Peace Network is going right to the heart of the matter: Stop the Wars!
So, please consider joining the Suffolk Peace Network at Smith Haven Mall. In addition to Anti-War signs, you might also bring signs or fliers about an end to war toys and militarism. See link to War Resister’s League below. They have great info and downloadable lit about war toys. (more…)
Speak out against war with Iran!
PeaceSmiths invites you to take action through this
United for Peace and Justice Action Alert [excerpts]…
Speak Out Against War With Iran!
Now, before any irreversible steps are taken, is the time for us to speak out against any U.S./Israeli military attack on Iran.
We urge you to take part in this important effort:
Call-in and take action to ensure that your member of Congress knows there is strong opposition to military action against Iran in his or her district. Capitol Hill switchboard at 202-224-3121 or click here to look up the direct numbers for your representative’s DC and local offices.
Ask your mayor to sign on to a resolution urging the Bush administration to pursue diplomatic engagement with Iran. At least 36 mayors have already signed on — now is the time to approach your mayor! For more information visit the Cities for Peace website.
Write letters to the editor of your local papers and call into local radio talk shows. Click here for a sample letter.
You can organize a visible presence in a busy location in your town: a vigil, an afternoon of leafleting or tabling, a human billboard, etc. Be sure to pick a time and location that has a lot of pedestrian or vehicle traffic!
To find out what might be happening in your area, click here. If you plan an activity, please post it on the UFPJ calendar of actions.
